There are five lessons in this course. With one online lesson scheduled every week and follow up independent study time of  between 2 to 3 hours per week.

All pupils enrolled on the decimals course will join the teacher in online classes once a week on Tuesdays from 2pm to 3pm GMT on the following dates.

The course learning objectives are:

  1. Recognise the use of decimals in the real world.
  2. Explore decimal place value using tenth, hundredth and thousandth.
  3. Round to the nearest whole number.
  4. Compare and order decimal numbers.
  5. Rounding to 1.d.p, 2.d.p and 3.d.p

At the end of this course the pupil should be able to:

  1. Describe how decimals are used in real world.
  2. Explain the position of a number using decimal place value.
  3. Round the decimal number to the nearest whole number.
  4. Compare and order decimal numbers.
  5. Round decimal numbers to 1.d.p, 2.d.p and 3.d.p.
This course is designed for pupils ages 9 and above, who would like to deepen their understanding of the concept of decimal numbers or just need a refresher.

To enrol on this course the pupils must know these topics:

  • add and subtract two and three digit numbers
  • multiply and divide numbers
  • times tables and corresponding division up to 12
  • understand place value up to 100000.
Week 1 introduces pupils to how they make use of decimal numbers in there daily life,
Week 2 pupils are taught about the place value of numbers before and after the decimal point, the tenth, hundredth and thousandth.
Week 3 pupils are taught how to round decimal numbers to a whole number.
Week 4 pupils are taught how to order decimal numbers.
Week 5 pupils are taught how to round decimal numbers to 1.d.p, 2.d.p, and 3.d.p.
Week 6 Review of the course. There will be the end of the course assessment and quiz.
