The two word building workbooks are designed to develop all four components of language learning; speaking, listening, handwriting skills and reading. Both workbooks the Word Building Book 1 and Word Building Book 2 are versatile and can be used in a variety of ways to boost and support the individual learning plan developed for the pupil.

The CVC Book 1 covers approximately 250 CVC words as well as the tricky words from the th and wh family. All the CVC words are presented on pages 4 and 5 of the workbook. This is handy if you want to just get the pupil to read the words and use them in a sentence. The Word Building Book 2 has nearly 300 four and five letter words that are commonly used. It supports the pupil build there vocabulary from Word Building Book 1 which contains 250 CVC words.

The importance of building vocabulary from an early age

The reading and spelling of CVC and CCVC words are important skills to learn for early readers especially in years 1 and 2.
This vital phonic skill reinforces the spelling patterns of three and four letter words. Furthermore, it encourages pupils to use rhymes of one and two syllable words. In addition, learning to recognise and form words is an important skill for pupil to develop in early childhood. Teaching pupils to read and write words helps build their vocabulary, spelling and aids developing writing skills. Additionally the exercises will improve their ability to concentrate, retain information and through verbal discussion will aid creativity.


Suitable for 

 The word formation series of workbooks are ideally suitable for pupils in the Early Years, Foundation and Key Stage 1. Pupils with special educational needs (SEN) may require specific support or supervision.
